Halters, halters, always halters… but I really enjoy making them so…
I’m happy with how this one turned out. Skiving leather is becoming easier, as is making tongue buckles. This set’s headed for ebay tomorrow or Monday.
This week also brought the new Marwari to my herd. 🙂 I’m thrilled Breyer’s got a mold for this breed. They’re so pretty, and it’s nice to see a breed that hasn’t already been done a thousand times. I still need to come up with a name for him. According to wiki (so who knows if it’s true or not) Marwari horses with a blaze and four socks are considered lucky. Maybe I could tie that in?
He (of course) got his own halter made the other day, modeled after ones I’ve seen on real Marwaris.
The stripes were painted on, so it’s kind of stiff, but overall I’m really happy with this one. I learned how to make a four strand braid for the lead rope as well.
Until next time…
I like making halters, too. I hardly ever sell them, so mostly they end up being worn by my own horses!
🙂
One of my goals is to make a halter for every horse in the herd. I’m so picky about who gets what color that I haven’t made much progress at all. 🙂
That Marwari halter is absolutely beautiful! I love the stitchmarks on the leather one too.
Thanks! 😀
What kind of paint did you use for the stripes on the ribbon? Love the idea!
Acrylics. Nothing fancy, just cheap craft store paint. 🙂 I brushed a varnish over it as well, to help keep it from flaking off.
Love that twisted leadrope – did you find a tutorial somewhere?
I followed this one: http://backstrapweaving.wordpress.com/tutorials/tutorial-4-strand-braid/ but there are dozens out there. It’s kind of tricky until you get the pattern down. ^_^
Excellent! Thanks for the link.
I love the little leather halter…such tiny stitch marks!
