Here’s a list of where I get supplies for tack making. Please let me know of any broken links! This list is a work in progress.
Hardware, Buckles, Etc
Rio Rondo
Leather, lace, hardware, tools – they have it all! (get on their e-mail list it’s worth it!)
The World of Model Horse Collecting
Hardware, stirrups, lacing, ribbon, saddle trees, etc
Blue Duck Saddlery
Stirrups, bits, accessories and more in a variety of scales
Leather, Dye and Finishes
Amazing Lace
Kangaroo lace in all sizes and colors, shipped from Australia.
Danecraft Leather Shop
USA based Kangaroo leather supplier. They sell lace and offcuts in many fun colors
Springfield Leather
I’ve purchased spools of kangaroo lace from these guys and love it for tack making! They also sell tooling leather – the 2/3 oz calfskin is perfect for mini saddles, and a square foot (or two!) will last a long time.
Gum Tragacanth
Seals and smooths fuzzy leather edges after skiving. A must have for tack making!
Fiebing’s Pro Dye
There are several leather dyes out there, but this is the one I have been using
Eco Flo Satin Shene
My favorite finish for leather
If you’re looking for glue, I mostly use Aleene’s Tacky Glue, Fabri-Tac for fabric/ribbon, and Loctite Superglue Gel
Ribbon and Fabric
“What type of fabric do you use?” – that depends on the project! For blankets, I mostly use quilting cotton. I purchase my fabric locally at stores like Joann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby, or through sellers on Etsy.
Sewing and Model Horses
Older post on the tools and supplies I use for sewing
Spoonflower
For custom printed fabric
Hairbow Center
I get my halter/blanket/etc ribbon from them. Good quality and prices.
