Two sets of saddlebags were finished up this week:

Even with a simplified pattern, these things are tedious to make, which is probably why I’ve put off making more all year. (sorry 😦 )

I liked the last version I made well enough, but still felt that some things needed to be improved. I was eager to see how adding the plastic buckles would look, and am really happy with the end result. These are much closer to how I originally wanted to make them years ago.

The ribbon adds a little more strength to the bag, and I’ve added a small felt piece in the bottom to help that as well.

I added a lining to the back (this is faux suede, with the wrong side facing out) after debating about it for a while. I’ve also been trying to remember to attach labels to my work, since I can’t sign pieces like these.

These two are up for auction on Model Horse Place: RED & GREEN

I’ve been working on and off on this blanket for the last month.

This weekend I finally managed to finish it.

This one is mostly based off of SmartPak Equine’s “Ultimate” turnout blanket. I was eager to try making the quick-clip closures in front. I’ve seen them on many real turnout blankets, and wanted to re-create them in miniature.

Success! The hooks clip on to the rings in front, making the blanket fairly easy to put on. (I usually buckle up everything then slip the blanket over the horse’s head… it’s a lot easier that way!) Like the real thing, they are also adjustable for a slightly tighter or looser fit.

This blanket has the usual details as well… tongue buckles, shoulder gussets, removable leg straps…

I’m really happy with how it came together.

The blanket is for sale, and the auction can be found here on Model Horse Place.

I’ve gotten two more blankets completed this week. These are based off another full-size blanket I’ve had in my reference files for years, but never got around to making.

The zebra print is my design, again printed through Spoonflower. I’ve had it sitting in my fabric stash forever, so I’m glad to finally put it to use!

Both have all the details I’ve been adding to my blankets lately: tongue buckles, removable leg straps and shoulder gussets.

I’ve listed these as auctions on Model Horse Place. The teal one can be found HERE, and the pink one HERE.
