Remember that jump I was making? Uhm… last year? I’ve been working on it off and on for the past few days, and finally finished it up this afternoon:
The holes in the wood look all nice and even from the front, but the backside? Not so much. 😀 I’m not too handy with a drill, methinks…
I made the jump cups out of a recycled soda can. They were pretty easy to make, as the shape is just a fat “T” that’s bent around the standards. Punch a couple holes, add a chain and wire pin and voila! Jump cups!
They’re not as fancy as cast ones from places like Rio Rondo, but I don’t care. I enjoyed making them myself. 🙂
Anyway, now that it’s done I’m wondering if I made the whole thing too small. Here’s my Gem Twist in front of it, to show the scale:
I’ve been looking through pictures and have noticed that the space between the standards seems to vary. Any thoughts?
But it’s pony sized! I’m not sure if Bouncer would be able to make it over that high a jump though…hee!

The jump looks awesome! I love the inexpensive home-made jump cup- they look fabulous and I didn’t know they were home-made pop-can jump cups until I read on. I did the same thing on micro mini scale with very stiff paper.
Oh, and I meant to say- if you are concerned about the width of the jump, you can always specify that this is a course where a horse must face a variety of widths to test the rider’s ability to put them over the center properly. That really happens, and some of jumps are super thin!

Oh how neat! Love the jump cups :).
It looks a little too small. But, it could be your poles more than anything. How long are they? The should be 10 or 12 feet in real life, which is about 13 inches at the shortest.
Also, my standards are 6 feet tall at least. I am not sure what the rules are about standard heigth, but yours may be like an inch short?

That’s probably it. The poles are 12 inches long, and the standards are 7 inches high. I *think* the standards are ok as it’s just a schooling sort of jump, but I’ll have to make some new poles. Luckily that’s an easy fix!

Oh those jumpcups look brilliant! I tried to make some similar ones ages ago out of the metal from tealight holders but alas, it didn’t quite go to plan…
