New Props!

When I saw this jump by Hobo Cat Creations listed for sale, I knew I had to have it.

This is the first jumpย I’ve purchased from another hobbyist, and I’m so glad I did because it’s so cute! I am literally surrounded by pine and birch trees, and while I haven’t seen any moose, they have been spotted around my property so it all just fits. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m also such a sucker for western/northwest stuff too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, I’m really pleased with this jump.

I love the detail of the poles, and the jump cups are well made and easy to use.

Here it is compared to my Flash model:

Thanks again, Amber! If you’re looking for some nice, affordable jumps or props, check out her work on her website and Facebook page!

Another awesome find was this performance obstacle guide, (POG for short) made by Michelle Masters:

It has measurements for jump heights and distances (for ground poles) on each side. The best part is that it’s all scaled for Traditional models. As someone who is easily confused with all that, this tool will be incredibly helpful! I found it listed on MH$P. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now I just need to get my butt in gear and make tack for my horses, ha!

Finishing Things: Part II

Remember that jump I was making? Uhm… last year? I’ve been working on it off and on for the past few days, and finally finished it up this afternoon:

The holes in the wood look all nice and even from the front, but the backside? Not so much. ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m not too handy with a drill, methinks…

I made the jump cups out of a recycled soda can. They were pretty easy to make, as the shape is just a fat “T” that’s bent around the standards. Punch a couple holes, add a chain and wire pin and voila! Jump cups!

They’re not as fancy as cast ones from places like Rio Rondo, but I don’t care. I enjoyed making them myself. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, now that it’s done I’m wondering if I made the whole thing too small. Here’s my Gem Twist in front of it, to show the scale:

I’ve been looking through pictures and have noticed that the space between the standards seems to vary. Any thoughts?

But it’s pony sized! I’m not sure if Bouncer would be able to make it over that high a jump though…hee!

Long time no see?

Watch as I transform this pile of wood pieces into something that resembles a jump:

It’s been a long time since I’ve made any sort of jump. This one won’t be anything fancy… just a simple white jump that you’d see in an arena during a lesson.

ย Here’s my first attempt at a jump, which I’ve taken out for updates and repairs. (several years in a Breyer box did not treat it well!)

Jumping was something I’d always wanted to do, but as I rode western, (when I was taking lessons) jumping wasn’t something I got to do very often. The one time I got to ride english, I got to go over a few small jumps,ย and that was so much fun. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

I’d love to try it again someday. Until then, I suppose I’m sticking with the models, haha. ๐Ÿ˜€
