New Year, New Post

Even though I don’t have as much time for the hobby as I used to, the new year always gets me thinking of future projects and hobby goals. Last year I set a goal to create one saddle per month, and was on a roll for a while, until I became busy with other things. I never could regain the momentum I had. Still, three saddles came of it which is better than what I usually average every year. So I guess that’s a win? Kind of maybe sort of?

Another goal I’ve had, for an embarrassing amount of time now, was to print up my copy of The Guide to Making Model Horse Tack, by Susan Bensema Young. I purchased this in PDF form ages ago, and have slowly been working on getting it printed and inserted into a binder. It’s so much easier to reference this way, rather than scrolling through the files on my computer.
This week I had enough and put my poor printer through a workout, getting the last of those pages printed and sorted. And now it’s done! I’ve even got tabs dividing the different sections! This binder is just big enough to hold it all.

It’s such a little thing but it feels good to finally have this crossed off my “to do” list.
The guide can be purchased here if anyone is interested. 😊

While organizing and rearranging my workspace this year, I decided to create a “prompt” jar. It’s full of slips of paper of random ideas, including tack projects or colors or themes or objects. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve scribbled them all down and I think I’ve already forgotten most of them.

The point is to help when I feel stuck creatively, which is often now, unfortunately. Will it actually help though?

Hopefully I’ll be creating more this year, and hopefully I can get back into blogging too. I guess those are my “official” goals for 2025. 😄

  1. I always enjoy your blog! I also know that blogging can be hard and the life can interfere at times. Here’s hoping you have a good 2025 and have some time to share your thoughts with us.

  2. This really is the 1st time I’ve ever seen anybody do what you did with the Guide. Fascinating, useful, inspiring, and may I say it: Humbling.
