September Wrap Up

Last week I started working on another horse blanket. It’s been a very long time since I made one, so I decided to go with something simple: a basic sheet made to fit Othello/Fox Valley Oliver.

One thing I did differently was create the leg straps from elastic, like many real horse blankets use.

I’ve finished a couple other sewing projects too, like this simple felt pad to go underneath my machine. I had been considering buying one but why, when I have a closet full of material? It’s four layers of felt sewn together, and significantly reduces the noise from the machine, making sewing a lot more enjoyable. Now that I feel like I’m being less annoying to my neighbors, I’ve been interesting in doing more sewing again.

And lastly, I finally got around to repainting some of those miniature pumpkins I picked up a long time ago. I think they came out a little too orange…

They’re still kind of cute. I’m not sure what I’ll do with them but hey, at least I’ve finished them!

  1. As always, the work on that blanket is stellar. I love to see what you’ve made. I’ve never though go putting a pad under my machine. I may give that a try. Question, though – does it enable the machine to travel forward or backward with the vibrations from sewing?

    1. Thank you!
Do you mean if the machine slides around with the pad while sewing? Not that I’ve noticed while using it, but my machine is made of mostly metal and is very heavy. Most things I make are on the small side so I don’t anticipate it being a problem, but I think adding a layer on the bottom (what’s coming to mind is a non slip drawer liner type of material) might make it more secure.

      1. Yes, that’s what I meant. I have my sewing machine on a cutting mat so it doesn’t move at all, but then it doesn’t when it’s set on a table without anything under it, either. But I also have an embroidery machine, and was wondering if it might move with a pad under it since it stitches at a much higher frequency and in a variety of directions. Maybe I will make a felt pad like yours and give it a try. If I do, I’ll let you know. Thanks! 🙂

  2. Hi, I just wanted to say that I love your blog. You give me so many ideas and inspire me to keep going in doing customs and crafting other model horse stuff. I have skimmed every blog post up to 2014. You are AMAZING, keep going!
