It’s taken a few months, but I’ve finally finished this showmanship halter.
I’ve been wanting to put this set of Rio Rondo hardware to use for a while now. This is the “Rawlins” design.
For some reason I default to halters when I’m struggling with making tack, thinking that they will be an easy project to work on. Ha!
The difficulty, for me anyway, is fitting it correctly. Showmanship halters fit much more snugly than regular halters, so it was tricky trying to get each strap the right length. I always make them too long or too short.
I’m not sure if it’s a perfect fit, but I think it came together nicely, and is definitely an improvement over previous attempts!

It’s lovely! Halters are easier than other tack items IMO, but enough of a challenge to get you thinking.
If you don’t mind me asking, what glue do you use to affix the metal pieces, and how do you roll the throatlatch?

I use superglue gel for the metal pieces. I scuff up the back of each piece with sandpaper beforehand, so the glue grips the piece better.
For the rolled throatlatch, I skive the area I want rolled very, very thin. Then I’ll add a thin layer of glue and roll the piece together in my fingers. Hope that helps!
