I decided to join in on the late Winter/Spring SM swap at Blab this year. Two people are paired up to paint a stablemate for one another, in any color, design, or shape… you name it! I had never done it before, but I am happy I did, as I had so much fun with it. 🙂
It was also a chance to give painting a go, which is another one of those things I “wanted” to do but never actually got around to doing. So yeah… my first custom now lives with a sweet Blabber who loves him, so I’m happy. 🙂
Here’s the guy I painted for her:
He’s really metallic so pictures were hard to take… and while I was painting him I kept thinking of the Na’vi from the movie Avatar. He wasn’t inspired by the movie at all, but the color is similar to theirs, haha! Now I want to paint another for myself with the aliens in mind… (Iamsuchageek)
I’m happy with how he turned out. I don’t think he’s all that bad for my very first… and honestly, how “good” the horses are in the SM swap doesn’t matter anyway. His new owner likes him, and that’s what’s important!
Anyway, the horse I recieved from my partner came in the mail today!
I took this picture with the flash as I felt it shows his color best. Isn’t he pretty? I love him to bits, especially his color. He reminds me so much of a Phoenix… 😀 He’s been brushed over with a bit of glitter as well. My camera couldn’t pick it up, but it’s so pretty, especially when he’s right in the light.
Here’s one without the flash:
I was also pleasantly surprised that he was painted on one of the 1st gen, or “old mold” stablemates! I love, love, love these molds but don’t have any as they can be a bit difficult to find. 😀
The swap definately awakened a new love of decorator colors on models. I have a feeling that my shelves will soon be littered with tiny horses in all different colors. 😀 Plus, it was loads of fun, and gave me a chance to do something I’ve never been brave enough to try before.
Count me in on the next one!
